Carly Rae Jepsen Biography and Career:

Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She was born on November 21, 1985, in Canada. Jepsen first came to the notice of the general public in 2007, when she placed third on the fifth season of Canadian Idol. Before to that, she had spent most of her school life and time at university pursuing musical theatre. Tug of War, Jepsen’s debut studio album, which featured folk-influenced music and was published in Canada in 2008, was not made available elsewhere in the world until 2011. Jepsen achieved her first significant level of success in 2012 with the release of her critically acclaimed single “Call Me Maybe.”

The single was named the best-selling single of that year and went on to sell over 18 million copies. It also reached number one in more than 19 countries and led to major record deals with Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records. Kiss, Carly Jepsen’s second studio album, was released later that year. It featured a collaboration with Owl City on the track “Good Time,” which peaked in the top ten of the singles charts in both Canada and the United States. Cinderella marked Jepsen’s first appearance on a Broadway stage, and she played the title role in the production for a total of 12 weeks in 2014. The following year, she released her third studio album, titled Emotion. This album was influenced by music from the 1980s, dance-pop, and synth-pop, and it featured the singles “I Really Like You,” “Your Type,” and “Run Away with Me.” In 2016, Jepsen contributed her voice to the animated picture Ballerina and also appeared as a performer in the television special Grease: Live.

Her fourth studio album, Devoted, was published in 2019, and it was followed by a B-side follow-up album named Dedicated Side B a year later. Dedicated featured the singles “Party for One,” “Now That I Found You,” and “No Drug Like Me,” and it was her fourth studio album overall. In October 2022, she released her sixth studio album, titled The Loneliest Time. This album has the hits “Western Wind” and “Beach House,” and it was produced at a studio. In addition to being nominated for the Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Polaris Music Prize, and People’s Choice Awards, Jepsen has been the recipient of an Allan Slaight Award, three Juno Awards, and three Billboard Music Awards. She tried to get into music-related programs at universities such as Capilano University and the University of British Columbia. However, on the advice of her high school drama teacher, she auditioned for the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia, and was one of 25 female students to gain admission into its year-long program in 2004.
