Chase Elliott Biography and Career:
William Clyde “Chase” Elliott II is a licensed professional stock car racing driver from the United States of America. He was born on November 28, 1995. He is presently competing in the NASCAR Cup Series on a full-time basis, driving the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports. As a result of his victory in the 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, he became the youngest champion in that series and the first rookie in NASCAR history to win a national series title.
In 2016, Elliott started competing in the Cup Series on a full-time basis, taking over for the legendary Jeff Gordon behind the wheel of the No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. During his stint in the Cup Series, Elliott was honored as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year for 2016. Hendrick Motorsports had not been able to win the Cup Series title since 2016, but he did so in Phoenix, Arizona, in the year 2020. With seven victories on road courses, he has a total of 18 Cup Series victories to his name.
He is the son of Bill Elliott, who won the Winston Cup Series in 1988. The Elliotts are the third father-son team to win a NASCAR championship in the history of the sport, following in the footsteps of Lee and Richard Petty and Ned and Dale Jarrett. In the edition of Sports Illustrated that was published on July 13, 2009, Elliott was featured among thirteen other athletes as prospective stars. Among these athletes were future world number one golfer Jordan Spieth and future NBA second overall selection Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Elliott was just thirteen years old at the time.
In 2010, Elliott competed in forty races belonging to a variety of series. He was victorious in twelve of the competitions he participated in during the year and finished in the top ten 38 times. In the third season of his racing career, he earned the title of Rookie of the Year in the Georgia Asphalt Pro Late Model Series by winning the Blizzard Series, Miller Lite, and Gulf Coast championships. In addition, he was voted the winner of the Gulf Coast championship.
After the season, he triumphed in the Winchester 400. In April 2011, Sports Illustrated recognized Elliott as the high school athlete of the week. Through the course of the year, he participated in the Champion Racing Association and became victorious in the National Super Late Model title for the series. In the latter part of that year, just after he became sixteen years old, he triumphed in the Snowball Derby, therefore becoming the youngest winner of the race.
He set a new record by 0.229 seconds, beating the driver who finished in second place, D.J. Vanderley. For the second time in the previous three years, he triumphed in the Alan Turner Snowflake 100, which is preceding the Snowball Derby. Elliott became the first driver in the history of the United States to win all four of the country’s major short-track races when he won the All-American 400 in November of 2013. These events include the Snowball Derby, the World Crown 300, the Winchester 400, and the All-American 400 of the United States.
In December, it seemed as if Elliott had achieved the distinction of becoming the first driver to win both the Snowball Derby and the Snowflake 100 on the same holiday weekend. Following the conclusion of the race, however, an examination revealed that Elliott’s vehicle included a piece of tungsten, which was a violation of the Derby regulations. Elliott was thus disqualified, and Erik Jones was granted the win as a result. Following the disqualification of the first winner, Christopher Bell, Elliott became victorious in the Snowball Derby in the year 2015.
As a means of gaining experience on more difficult circuits, Elliott participated in six ARCA Racing Series races in 2012 and five races in 2013 while driving the number 9 car. ARCA enables drivers to compete at Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway, two circuits where NASCAR requires drivers to be at least 18 years old. The minimum age for ovals larger than 2,000 meters, or 1.25 miles, is 18 years old. On the other hand, the minimum age for shorter tracks and road courses is 16.
Following his victory in Pocono on June 8, 2013, Elliott became the youngest winner in the history of the American Racing Association (ARRA) superspeedway. In February, Elliott signed a driver development deal with Hendrick Motorsports that was for three years. In 2012, he was a competitor in the K&N Pro Series East, where he finished ninth in the season points standings with the number 9 car. In 2012, Elliott made his comeback to the K&N Pro Series East and won the first race of his career in the series, which took place at Iowa Speedway in their May event. In the series points, he finished in fourth place.
Elliott participated in three NASCAR K&N Pro Series West races in 2011 and 2012, all of which took place at Phoenix Raceway. In 2011, he only raced once, while in 2012, he competed twice. The one race he participated in in 2011 was a third-place result, and in the races that he competed in in 2012, he finished 17th (due to an accident) and then fourth. During the 2013 Truck Series season, it was revealed in January 2013 that Elliott would be competing for Hendrick Motorsports competing in nine NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races. Turner Scott Motorsports would be responsible for preparing the trucks that Elliott would be driving.
With a lap speed of 125.183 miles per hour (201.463 kilometers per hour), Elliott became the youngest driver to ever win the pole position in the history of the Truck Series. This accomplishment occurred during the qualifying session for the UNOH 200, which took place at Bristol Motor Speedway. At the time, Elliott was the youngest winner in the history of the Truck Series. He was 17 years, 9 months, and 4 days old when he won his maiden race, which was the Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. This was the first road course truck event that took place outside of the United States.
Nevertheless, the victory was a contentious one because Elliott made touch with the leader, Ty Dillon, at the last turn. There was a collision between Dillon and the tire barrier, and Elliott ran onto the grass. However, Elliott was able to recover enough to be able to coast to the finish line ahead of Chad Hackenbracht, who was driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Dillon subsequently warned that the next time they raced each other, “he won’t finish the race.” Elliott later indicated that he had tried to apologize to Dillon, but he did not get any answer from him.
Over the next week at Iowa Speedway, Elliott had a tire blowout early on in the race, which resulted in a wreck that did not include Dillon. Elliott competed in the Alpha Energy Solutions 200 at Martinsville Speedway in October of 2016. This was Elliott’s first truck race since 2013, and he was driving the No. 71 for Contreras Motorsports. He was leasing owners’ points and the truck chassis from JR Motorsports. Elliott finished in second place, leading the most laps with 109.
In 2017, Elliott competed in two races for GMS Racing, the first of which was at Atlanta and the second of which was at Martinsville. He won the race in Martinsville. After three years, he made his comeback to the series and team, driving the No. 24 car. This endeavor was a direct result of Kevin Harvick’s decision to give a bounty to full-time Cup drivers who were capable of defeating Kyle Busch. Due to the influence that the COVID-19 pandemic had on the timetable, the attempt was originally slated to take place during the Atlanta race; however, it was changed to Charlotte in May.
