Emma Bunton Biography and Career:

Emma Lee Bunton is a well-known English singer, songwriter, actor, and media personality. She was born on the 21st of January 1976. The decade of the 1990s saw her rise to stardom as a member of the girl group the Spice Girls, during which time she earned the moniker Baby Spice. The quartet became the best-selling female group in the history of music after selling more than 100 million records around the world. A Girl Like Me (2001), Bunton’s first solo album, was released while the Spice Girls were on a hiatus. The album debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of more than 100,000 copies. Bunton’s solo career began during the hiatus that the Spice Girls took.

The album gave birth to the number one single on the UK Singles Chart, “What Took You So Long?,” as well as the top five singles “What I Am” and “Take My Breath Away” and the number 20 hit “We’re Not Gonna Sleep Tonight.” All of these singles were derived from the album. The singles “Free Me,” “Maybe,” “I’ll Be There,” and “Crickets Sing for Anamaria” were all taken from her second studio album, which was titled Free Me (2004). After the success of her third studio album, Life in Mono, which was released in 2006, Bunton got back together with the Spice Girls in 2007 for a one-time-only international tour and to record a greatest hits album.

She has been performing as a member of the Spice Girls alongside Geri Halliwell, Melanie C., and Mel B. since 2018. 2019 saw the release of her fourth album created in a recording studio, titled My Happy Place. Television appearances made by Bunton include a recurring role on the comedy series Absolutely Fabulous (2003-2012), which aired on BBC One; being a contestant on the fourth series of the BBC dancing competition show Strictly Come Dancing; and serving as a judge on the ITV celebrity skating show Dancing on Ice (2010-2011) and entertainment series Your Face Sounds Familiar (2010-2011). (2013).

She co-hosted the Heart Breakfast Show in London with Jamie Theakston from 2013 to 2018, and she also presently has her own show on Sunday evenings. Her tenure on the show spanned five years. Finchley, which is located in Barnet, London, is where Bunton was born.  After the divorce of her mother, Pauline, who was a karate instructor, and her father, Trevor Bunton, who was a milkman, when she was 11 years old, she continued to live with her mother. Her younger brother’s name is Paul James, and she has one. According to what was mentioned in a television interview that took place in August 2016 with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on This Morning, Bunton’s maternal ancestry hails originally from the Irish county of Wexford. In Finchley, Bunton received her primary education at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic School.

She went ahead and signed up for classes at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. It was at the SYTS where she met and became friends with Keeley Hawes; during that time, the two of them traveled and lived together. In 1992, Bunton had a guest role as a thug in the British soap opera EastEnders, which was broadcast on the BBC.] In 1993, she made an appearance in the ITV police drama The Bill, and she also had a cameo as a prostitute in the BBC drama series To Play the King. Both of these roles were brief. Additionally, Bunton was featured in a firework safety education video that was produced by the British government and distributed to the public.

In the year 1994, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Adams answered an advertisement that was published in The Stage.  There were approximately 400 women who responded to the advertisement and went dancing at Works studios. It was originally decided that Halliwell, Chisholm, Adams, and Brown would be a part of the ensemble, along with Michelle Stephenson. However, Stephenson’s lack of dedication to the project led to her being replaced first by Abigail Kis and then by Bunton. The lack of a contract left the band members feeling uncomfortable, and they were dissatisfied with the course of action that Heart Management was directing them toward. In October of 1994, the band started going around to different management companies, carrying with them a collection of demos and dance routines.

They were able to persuade Bob Herbert to organize a showcase performance for the band in front of industry writers, producers, and A&R men in December of 1994 at the Nomis Studios in Shepherd’s Bush. The group was met with a “overwhelmingly positive” reaction during this performance.  The Herberts responded promptly to the overwhelming interest in the organization by beginning work on drafting a legally binding contract on behalf of the group. The reception that they had gotten at the Nomis showcase served as motivation for all five members of the band to delay signing contracts in order to seek legal counsel from various sources, including Adams’ father Anthony Adams.

They decided to separate ways with Heart Management in March of 1995 due to the management company’s refusal to listen to the group’s ideas and aspirations, which was a source of much aggravation for the band. Bunton had the distinction of being the group’s youngest member. The album went on to finish the year as the 147th best-selling album in the United Kingdom for the year 2001.  The album was purchased in the United Kingdom at a rate of 125,000 copies. Due to the low number of sales, Bunton was released from her contract with Virgin in 2002. At an event called Party at the Palace, which was staged in honor of Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and took place in the garden of Buckingham Palace on June 3, 2002, Bunton was one of the performers.

In March of 1995, the band officially joined forces with 19 Entertainment’s Simon Fuller after having been in communication with him since 1993. After spending the summer of that year touring record companies in London and Los Angeles with Fuller, the band ultimately decided to sign a contract with Virgin Records in the fall of that same year, in September 1995. After this point, the band continued to write and record tracks for their debut album while simultaneously engaging in extensive touring along the west coast of the United States, where they had signed a publishing deal with Windswept Pacific. This activity continued all the way up until the summer of 1996. The Spice Girls made their musical debut with the single “Wannabe,” which was released in the United Kingdom on July 8, 1996.

The music video for “Wannabe” was previewed on The Box music channel in the days and weeks preceding the official release of the song. The song “Wannabe” was an enormous success, remaining at the top of the UK Singles Chart for seven consecutive weeks and also topping the charts in an additional 34 countries, including the United States of America, Australia, Denmark, France, and Germany.  and breaking the record for the most records ever sold by a single recording by an all-female band. After then, the band had a total of nine more singles reach number one, taken from their albums Spice, Spiceworld, and Forever.  The media gave each member of the group a nickname in order to better identify them. “Baby Spice” was the nickname given to Bunton. Other hit releases followed, including “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” and “Mama” from Spice, “Spice Up Your Life,” “Too Much,” “Stop,” and “Viva Forever” from Spiceworld, respectively.

In 1999, she was the host of the Emma show on VH1. She contributed background vocals to Melanie B’s song “Sophisticated Lady,” which was released as a B-side to her single “Word Up,” and she recorded “(Hey You) Free Up Your Mind” for the film Pokémon: The First Movie. She released her first solo single, a rendition of Tin Tin Out’s “What I Am,” in November 1999. The track was produced in conjunction with Tin Tin Out. In the year 2000, following the release of the group’s comeback single, a double A-side of “Holler”/”Let Love Lead The Way,” and the third studio album, Forever, which charted at number two in the UK, the Spice Girls decided to stop recording and instead focus on their individual careers with an eye toward the future.

Additionally, she contributed backing vocals to Melanie B’s album track “Hotter,” which was released in October 2000 as part of Melanie B’s debut solo studio album titled Hot. The first album by Bunton to be published under her own name as a solo artist was titled A Girl Like Me and was released by Virgin Records on April 16, 2001, in the United Kingdom. With 21,500 copies sold in its first week, the album debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart and eventually reached its highest position there. The album’s lead song, “What Took You So Long?,” shot straight to the top of the UK Singles Chart when it was released.

Despite having some initial success, which was encouraging, A Girl Like Me quickly slid down the charts. Despite this, the album was able to maintain its position on the UK Albums Chart for a number of weeks thanks to the success of the singles “Take My Breath Away,” which peaked at number five, and “We’re Not Gonna Sleep Tonight,” which peaked at number twenty. A Girl Like Me received a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on September 7, 2001, indicating that it has sold more than 100,000 copies.
