Jon Hamm Biography and Career:

Gregory Richard Gianforte, an American businessman, politician, software engineer, and writer was born on April 17, 1961. He has been serving as the 25th governor of Montana since 2021. Gianforte is a member of the Democratic Party. Gianforte, affiliated with the Republican Party, served as the representative of the United States Congress for Montana’s at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2021.

With his wife, Susan, Gianforte established RightNow Technologies in 1997, a software firm specializing in customer relationship management. In 2004, when it went public on the stock market, the firm already had over thousand employees. When the deal was finalized, Oracle Corporation paid $1.5 billion to purchase RightNow Technologies in 2011. Gianforte ran as the Republican contender for governor of Montana in 2016, but he was defeated by Steve Bullock, who was serving in that capacity then.

Gianforte won the special election for Montana’s at-large congressional seat in May 2017, defeating the Democratic contender Rob Quist. The election was held to fill a vacancy caused by the appointment of Ryan Zinke as the Secretary of the Interior for the United States of America. Gianforte was found guilty of assault in state court in June 2017, following an incident in which he had attacked a political reporter for The Guardian by body-slamming him on the day before the election in May 2017.

He was required to do community service, attend anger management counseling, and pay a fine. In 2018, Gianforte prevailed in the reelection race against the Democratic candidate Kathleen Williams. Gianforte decided not to run for reelection to the House of Representatives in 2020 but instead ran for Montana’s governorship in the same year. In the general election held in November, he was victorious against the incumbent lieutenant governor Mike Cooney.

Since Judy Martz resigned her position as governor of Montana in 2005, he is the only Republican to hold the position since then. Douglass and Michael are his younger brothers, and they are both his younger siblings. Gianforte was reared in the Valley Forge and King of Prussia suburbs northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, beginning when he was three. These communities include Wayne, a wealthy unincorporated township settlement that stretches into Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware Counties. Gianforte is now serving as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Gianforte launched his software company in the 1970s while he was still a teenager and attending high school. He received his high school education at Upper Merion Area High School in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. He was chosen to serve as class president during his junior and senior years there. Gianforte was also the captain of the football team at his high school, in which he played the left offensive guard position. In 1979, he received his diploma from high school.

Gianforte received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Science degree in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1983. This was the same school that his father attended and graduated from. He oversaw a computer lab that had 12 different programmers. He was a men’s fraternity Delta Tau Delta member and loved playing squash in his own time. Gianforte started his professional life in 1983 at Bell Laboratories, working in the product acquisition department.

Gianforte left Bell Labs to co-found Brightwork Development Inc.. This company developed server-based LAN administration software for the banking sector and had its headquarters in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Gianforte was dissatisfied with the bureaucratic corporate structure that existed at Bell Labs. In 1994, he and his business partners parted ways with the firm and sold it to McAfee Associates for $10 million. After that, Gianforte started working for McAfee as the chief of sales for the North American region. In 1995, he uprooted his life and settled in Bozeman, Montana.

In 1997, Gianforte and his wife Susan, who is a mechanical engineer, laid the groundwork for what would become RightNow Technologies. When it came to developing an international firm, one component of Gianforte’s plan was to use the internet to circumvent geographical limitations. Over one thousand employees and executives were employed when the firm went public in 2004. In addition to its headquarters in Bozeman, the corporation has offices in the United Kingdom, Asia, and Australia. One of its executives was the future senator of the United States, Steve Daines.

In 2011, Oracle Corporation paid $1.5 billion to purchase the business, making the transaction official. At the time, around $290 million was the approximate value of Gianforte’s 20% ownership position in the firm. Right Now Technologies managed all the online search inquiries for the Social Security Administration and Medicare websites as part of their contracts with government agencies.

Gianforte filed a defamation lawsuit against the Montana Democratic Party in 2012, arguing that the negative House campaign advertising the party ran against Daines, who was running for the House at the time, constituted libel. Gianforte said that the party was responsible for airing television advertisements claiming Right Now Technologies financed itself with public contracts and then offshored employment.

Gianforte and Marcus Gibson published the book “Bootstrapping Your Business: Start and Grow a Successful Company with Almost No Money” in 2005 under their combined pen names. He has spoken to business groups about becoming an entrepreneur and developing a worldwide company. Gianforte and his wife established the Gianforte Family Foundation in 2004. Since its inception, the foundation has helped Gianforte spread his creationist views in the public arena and has given out tens of millions of dollars to various charity organizations.

The foundation states that its primary mission is to provide financial assistance to “the work of faith-based organizations engaged in outreach work, strengthening families, and helping the needy; organizations in Montana that work to improve education, support entrepreneurship, and create jobs; and organizations that enhance the local community of Bozeman, Montana.”Gianforte, his wife, and Richard, Gianforte’s son, are the three individuals that serve as trustees of the charity. In 2013, the foundation’s assets totaled a staggering $113 million.

The Montana Family Foundation has received approximately $900,000 in donations from the Gianforte Family Foundation. These donations have constituted more than half of the Montana Family Foundation’s income in specific years. The Montana Family Foundation has actively lobbied the Montana legislature to support conservative and Christian principles. When asked about the motivation for his donation to the organization, Gianforte said it was because the organization shares his values.

Gianforte has provided significant financial support to several groups that adhere to conservative values through his charitable foundation, the Gianforte Family Charitable Trust. Some have taken the lead in legal attempts to overturn federal restrictions governing political money. Both the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family have benefited from donations made by Gianforte.

Which campaigned for a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage, in addition to the Montana Family Foundation, which is “the state’s primary advocate against LGBT policies”.Gianforte was a member of the board of directors of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, an organization for educational reform established by the economist Milton Friedman and promotes the use of school vouchers.

Gianforte adheres to the Young Earth creationist philosophical framework. The Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum in Glendive, Montana, is a creationist museum that educates visitors that the theory of evolution is erroneous, that the Earth is around 6,000–6,400 years old, and that people and dinosaurs coexisted during the same period. He has given at least $290,000.

The museum asserts that dinosaurs were on board Noah’s ark and became extinct during the great flood depicted in the Book of Genesis about 4,300 years ago. Another item that was given to the museum by the Gianforte Family Foundation was a reproduction of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. Gianforte has a wide range of commercial interests and stakes in several industries. In November 2013, he was given a position on the board of directors of FICO, which is an organization that evaluates the credit risks of customers for lending institutions.

During the same month, Gianforte purchased 8,000 shares of FICO, which had a value of more than $464,000.00 at the time of the transaction. Since 1995, he has been a partner in the limited liability business known as MGRR No. 1, which has been eligible for grain subsidies. The Montana High Tech Business Alliance was established under Gianforte’s leadership as board chair. When he was inducted into Congress in June of 2017, he relinquished his position as head of the committee.
