Jhené Aiko Biography and Career:

Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo is an American singer and composer. She was born on March 16, 1988, and her full name is Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo. Her voice technique is described as ethereal, and her lyrics have been described as evocative. She began her career in the music industry by joining the R&B group B2K, for whom she provided vocals and appeared in music videos. Aiko was promoted as B2K member Lil’ Fizz’s cousin in an effort to promote her and build a fanbase for her; this was done in an effort to nurture a following for Aiko.  Unlike popular belief, she is not in any way connected to him.  My Name Is Jhené was supposed to be Aiko’s debut album, which was scheduled to be released in 2003 by her labels Sony, The Ultimate Group, and Epic.

However, the album was never released, and Aiko wanted to be freed from the label so that she may continue her studies. Aiko released her first full-length project, a mixtape titled Sailing Soul, in March of 2011, marking her comeback to the music industry and the release of her first full-length effort (s). On the 16th of December in 2011, Aiko signed a recording contract with the record label ARTium, which is owned by the American record producer No I.D. and is under the umbrella of Def Jam Records.

Aiko had her debut appearance in the top 40 of the US Billboard Hot 100 list with her contribution to Big Sean’s single “Beware,” which was released in 2013. The song also featured Lil Wayne. Sail Out was the title of her first project for Artium and Def Jam, which was issued as an extended play (EP) in the month of November 2013. The songs “3:16 AM,” “Bed Peace” (with Childish Gambino), and “The Worst” were released in support of the EP. “The Worst” was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) (RIAA).

On September 9, 2014, Aiko issued her first album under a big record label and titled it Souled Out. The trip, her second album to be recorded in a studio, was released on September 22, 2017.  Chilombo, Aiko’s third studio album, was released on March 6, 2020. It was nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and garnered Aiko a nod for the award. Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo came into the world on March 16th, 1988 in the city of Los Angeles, in the state of California. Her family originally lived in South Los Angeles, but after their house caught fire when she was seven, they relocated to the area around Slauson Avenue that includes View Park–Windsor Hills, Baldwin Hills, and Ladera Heights. There, she received her education at home until she graduated from high school. She refers to the area surrounding her house as “Slauson Hills.”

How to Contact Jhené Aiko: Phone Number

Aiko Yamamoto Chilombo is the daughter of doctor Christina Yamamoto and Karamo Chilombo (born Gregory Wycliff Barnes). Her parents are no longer together. Aiko is the fourth child of her mother and her father, and she also has three half siblings from her father’s side of the family. Altogether, she has seven siblings. Her sister is R&B singer Mila J.  Her mother is of Spanish, Dominican, and Japanese origin, and her father is of Native American, African-American, and German-Jewish descent. Her maternal grandmother was born in Spain, and her maternal grandfather was born in the Dominican Republic.  Her Creole Dominican grandmother had Spanish ancestry, while her Japanese maternal grandpa was of Japanese descent.  She had been taking voice lessons in Culver City, but she stopped doing so when she discovered that she was pregnant.

Aiko started out her career in music in 2002 when she was signed to The Ultimate Group and managed by Chris Stokes. She contributed vocals to various B2K releases, as well as a song that was featured on the soundtrack for The Master of Disguise. During this time, she was known as the cousin of B2rapper K’s Lil’ Fizz; however, they are not related to each other in any way. It was utilized as a marketing tactic to promote Aiko through B2K and draw an audience; nevertheless, Aiko insists that she and Lil’ Fizz grew up together and were close like family. This was recommended by her labels Sony, The Ultimate Group, and Epic Records.  She made appearances on tracks five through eight of the R&B group B2remix K’s album, which was titled B2K: The Remixes – Volume 1.  In addition, the cover song “Santa Baby” that she had previously recorded was included on the album Santa Hooked Me Up, and she made an appearance as a guest vocalist on the track “Tease” from the album Pandemonium!. Her song “Dog” was included on the album as a bonus track.

Aiko has also been featured in a number of music videos, some of which include O’Ryan’s debut video, “Take It Slow,” B2debut K’s video “Oh Huh,” and P.Y.T.’s “Same Ol’ Same Ol’ (Remix)” featuring Sarai, Play’s “M.A.S.T.E.R. (Part 2)” with Lil’ Fizz, and Morgan Smith’s “Blow Ya Whist. In addition, songs by Aiko may be found on the soundtracks of the films Barbershop, The Master of Disguise, You Got Served, The Proud Family, and Byou.  Although she was only 15 years old, she made her debut on BET’s 106 & Park with her track “NO L.O.V.E.” (which she re-recorded from Da’ Rayne’s version in 2002). She subsequently created a music video for the song. It was originally planned that Aiko would release her debut album in 2003 under the title My Name Is Jhené through Sony, The Ultimate Group, and Epic. However, the album was never released due to tensions within the Epic record label, which ultimately led to Aiko asking to be released from the label.

Aiko eventually parted ways with the record labels mentioned above so that she may advance her education. She started performing again in 2007, and she explained her decision to do so in an interview by stating, “Shortly before I conceived my daughter, I stepped back into the field and took a meeting with a label head.”  During this discussion, I was given the benign advice to “sell” myself whenever I walked into meetings like these. When I reached that point, I made the decision that rather than selling myself, I would sail myself. Aiko published a mixtape with the title Sailing Soul(s) on March 16, 2011, and made it available for download through her official website, JheneAiko.com. With the exception of “July,” all of the tracks on the mixtape were written by her. The mixtape featured a number of artists working together, including Miguel, Drake, and Kanye West, among others.  On July 15, Aiko hosted a one-time free secret performance, which featured R&B singer Miguel as a special guest. The show was intended to promote Aiko’s mixtape.

Aiko’s music video for the song “My Mine” was uploaded on the internet on October 21, 2012. A video for the second track on the mixtape, titled “Stranger,” was also published by Aiko. She also started working closely with artists from the Carson-based independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment in 2011. These artists include Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, the latter of whom was featured on her EP titled Sail Out, which was released on November 12, 2013. In the year 2012, Aiko had a meeting with No I.D., a record producer who was also the vice president of A&R at Def Jam. No I.D. ultimately decided to sign Aiko to his Artium Records imprint, which was distributed by Def Jam.

The song “3:16 AM” by Aiko was released on September 4, 2012, and it was made available for digital download on iTunes that same day.  The song was the first to be released as a single from the album Sail Out. Aiko was also the opening act in 2012 for the highly anticipated “Life Is Good/Black Rage” concert tour, which was fronted by fellow American musicians Nas the Rapper and Lauryn Hill, a singer-songwriter. Aiko made her debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 with the single “Beware,” which featured Big Sean and was released in June 2013. The song was Aiko’s first single. It was announced in October 2013 that Aiko would serve as the opening act for the Would You want a Tour? concert tour being performed by the Canadian rapper Drake.

On November 12, 2013, Aiko then issued her first extended play, titled Sail Out. The extended play album opened at position number eight on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, with initial sales of 34,000 copies.  The song “The Worst” was released as the album’s third single on January 14, 2014, and it was serviced to rhythmic contemporary radio stations in the United States.  In doing so, she became the first female artist to top the chart as a lead with a debut single since Jazmine Sullivan in 2008. On May 2, 2014, “The Worst” rose from three to one on the airplay Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop, and in doing so, she became the first female artist to do so since 2008.  The song reached its highest position on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 43, making it Aiko’s first solo single to chart in the region. Moreover, the song reached its highest position on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number eleven.
