Kelly Clarkson Biography and Career:

Kelly Brianne better known by her stage name Kelly Clarkson, is a popular American singer, songwriter, novelist, and television personality. She was born on April 24, 1982, in the United States. Her victory on the first season of American Idol in 2002 propelled her to the forefront of the entertainment industry and landed her a recording contract with RCA. Her first track, “A Moment Like This,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and went on to become the most successful single in the country in 2002. It was included in her first studio album, Thankful, which was released in 2003 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. In an effort to modernize her public persona, Kelly Clarkson severed ties with the management team of American Idol and adopted a pop-rock sound for her second studio album, Breakaway (2004).

Over 12 million copies of Breakaway were sold all over the world, and the album was awarded two Grammys. The singles “Because of You,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” and the album’s title tune all reached the top ten in the United States. Clarkson exercised a greater degree of creative control with her third studio album, My December (2007), by contributing to the writing of all of the album’s tracks in addition to taking on the role of executive producer for the project. Her record label, on the other hand, was unhappy with the album’s heavier rock music and reluctantly promoted it as a result.

Clarkson’s fourth and fifth studio albums, All I Ever Wanted (2009) and Stronger (2011), returned to a lighter tone and pop-rock sound. The former became her second album to reach number one in the United States, and the latter made her the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album twice. Both albums were released by the record label Republic Records. Both albums gave birth to a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: “My Life Would Suck Without You,” which holds the record for the chart’s all-time largest climb to number one, and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” which became her best-selling single worldwide.

Wrapped in Red, Clarkson’s Christmas CD, went on to become the year’s top-selling holiday recording (2013). The ASCAP voted “Underneath the Tree” as the most popular Christmas song to be released in the 21st century, and it was released as a single by this band. Piece by Piece, her seventh studio album, released in 2015, debuted at number one in the United States, while the album’s title track made it into the top ten. Following her departure from RCA and subsequent signing with Atlantic in 2016, Kelly Clarkson released her eighth album, Meaning of Life (2017), which included a soul-influenced sound, as well as her second Christmas album, When Christmas Comes Around.. (2021).

She has also earned a number of other distinctions.

Billboard has lauded Kelly Clarkson as “one of pop music’s best singers,” and recognized her with the Powerhouse Award. VH1 ranked her sixteenth on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music, and she was given the Powerhouse Award by Billboard. Kelly Brianne Clarkson is the daughter of Jeanne Ann (née Rose), an English instructor for first grade, and Stephen Michael Clarkson, a former engineer. Kelly was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to her parents.  She is the youngest of three children; her older brother is named Jason, and her older sister is named Alyssa. She is the only girl in the family. Clarkson also has two younger half-brothers who are a product of the second marriage that her father had.

When she was six years old, her parents got a divorce, and after that, her brother went to live with their father, her sister went to live with an aunt, and she stayed with her mother. She is the youngest of three children.  At some point in the future, Clarkson’s mother wed Jimmy Taylor. Clarkson’s ancestry can be traced back to England, Wales, Ireland, and Greece. Her mother is a descendent of Republican state senator Isaiah Rose, whose biography was covered on an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? hosted by Clarkson in 2013.  Clarkson is a product of a Southern Baptist upbringing. She has been quoted as saying, “I spent my entire childhood in the church.” In our church’s youth group, I served as the leader. My upbringing was marked by a strong connection to the church as well as to God. But I believe that we have become much closer simply due to the fact that He is the only one on whom I can lean.  She reflected on her upbringing years later, saying, “My family was really traditional; I was required to go to church on Sunday and Wednesday.”

Pauline Hughes Middle School was where Clarkson received her education. Cynthia Glenn, who taught choir at the school, overheard her singing in a hallway while she was in the seventh grade and invited her to try out for a position in the school chorus. Clarkson revealed to her that she had never participated in any kind of formal vocal instruction. Clarkson received her diploma from Burleson High School in 2000. During her time there, she participated in a number of musical productions, including Brigadoon, Annie Get Your Gun and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. In the hopes of winning a music-related scholarship for college, Clarkson started taking voice lessons. Following graduation from high school, Clarkson turned down offers to attend the University of Texas, the University of North Texas, and Berklee College of Music on full scholarships.

She declined their offer and explained that she had already written a large amount of music and preferred to work independently. In addition, I was under the impression that it is never too late to enroll in college. She worked multiple jobs in order to save up money for a demo, during which she recorded material and attempted to market it to record labels, but she did not receive much response. Clarkson renounced two recording contracts offered to her by Jive Records and Interscope Records, claiming that she did so because the labels “would have completely pigeonholed me as a bubblegum act.”

I had a sufficient amount of faith that something much better was on the horizon.  She left for Los Angeles in 2001 with the intention of launching a career in the music industry. She had small roles in a few television shows, including Dharma & Greg and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She also collaborated with guitarist Gerry Goffin for a short time to record five demo tracks in the hopes of landing a record deal. According to Clarkson, her early efforts to establish her music career failed because she was rejected by virtually every record label in the United States for sounding “too black.” Clarkson was compelled to go back to Burleson because there were no other employment alternatives available to her and because her flat had caught fire.

There, she advertised Red Bull energy drinks, worked as a telemarketer and served as a cocktail waitress in a comedy club.  When Clarkson went back to her hometown of Burleson, her friends urged her to try out for the first season of the reality television show American Idol: The Search for a Superstar, which premiered in May of 2002. Clarkson did not make her first appearance until the second episode of the series, despite the fact that she was given a “golden ticket,” also known as a pass to the Hollywood rounds, in the first episode of the series.

During an interview in 2012, Clarkson referred to the first season as “ghetto” and explained that during that season, the contestants “were like kids in camp.” Nobody knew what to do. The show was constantly evolving on a daily basis. They only aired one season of Pop Idol in the UK, but the market in the United States is substantially different. They brought us to a shopping center and told us to find something to wear for national television before they left. I am probably as close to white trash as it is possible to get. What should I get? I’m guessing white pants here? I could have fooled anyone into thinking I worked in a bar. In the end, Kelly Clarkson triumphed against Justin Guarini to take first place in the competition, which took place at the Kodak Theatre (now known as Dolby) on September 4, 2002. Clarkson received 58% of the votes cast.
