Malcolm James McCormick, better known by his stage name Mac Miller, was an American rapper and record producer. He was born on January 19, 1992, and passed away on September 7, 2018. Miller entered the Pittsburgh hip-hop scene in 2007, when he was only fifteen years old, and began his career there. His breakout mixtapes, K.I.D.S. (2010) and Best Day Ever (2010) were both released in 2010, the same year that he landed a record deal with the independent label Rostrum Records (2011). The tracks “Smile Back,” “Frick Park Market,” and “Party on Fifth Ave.” all charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Smile Back” reaching its highest position at number 55, “Frick Park Market” at number 60, and “Party on Fifth Ave.” reaching its highest position at number 64. The United States and Canada both awarded Blue Slide Park with the gold certification. Blue Slide Park received a relatively mixed review from critics, despite the fact that it had a very successful commercial performance.

Macadelic was released by Miller on March 23, 2012, and it was his sixth mixtape overall. The highest position that the single “Loud” reached on the Billboard Hot 100 was number 53. Midway through the year 2012, Miller debuted two tracks from an upcoming collaborative EP titled Pink Slime, both of which were produced by Pharrell Williams. According to Miller, the project was finished with at least ten tracks by August 201, however, despite efforts spanning many years, it was never distributed to the public. The album yielded three singles; “S.D.S.”, “Watching Movies” and “Goosebumps”. On the album, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler, the Creator, Action Bronson, and Jay Electronica each made cameo performances.  The record is “extremely introspective and very personal, so it’s kind of throwing it all out there and seeing what happens,” according to Miller.
