Quinto was reared in the Pittsburgh suburb of Green Tree, Pennsylvania, after being born in the city of Pittsburgh. He is the younger sibling of one brother and two sisters. His formal education was completed at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic School, which operated until 2010. His mother, Marguerite J. “Margo” (née McArdle), had a career as an investment counselor and later as an administrator in the magistrate’s office. When Quinto was seven years old, his father, Joseph John “Joe” Quinto, a barber, died of cancer. Joe Quinto was the patriarch of the Quinto family.

After their father’s passing, Quinto and his brother Joe were cared for and educated by their mother. He was brought up in the Catholic faith. Although his mother was of Irish descent, the Italian ancestors of his father were responsible for his upbringing. In 1995, Quinto received his diploma from Central Catholic High School. He was active in the school’s musical productions and was even considered for a nomination for the Gene Kelly Award for Best Supporting Actor. After that, he continued his education by enrolling in the theater program at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Theater. In 1999, he received his bachelor’s degree in dramatic literature from that institution. In October 2011, Quinto made his first public declaration of homosexuality to the general public.

After seeing a homosexual teenager commit suicide, he concluded that “living a gay life without publicly identifying one’s sexual orientation is simply not enough to make any substantial contribution to the enormous effort that remains ahead on the road to true equality.” Jamey Rodemeyer was a gay adolescent. Quinto has been an active champion for gay rights and organizations such as The Trevor Project in the years leading up to his public revelation of his sexual orientation.

In 2009, a fundraiser staged reading of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays was produced for one night as a reaction to the passing of Proposition 8. The performance was a one-night-only event. In addition, he had a role in the play The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later, which was staged in 2010 and was based on the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998. It Gets Better Project is an online initiative started in 2010 to reduce the number of LGBTQAI+ youth who commit suicide. Quinto contributed a film to the project by making it available on YouTube.

In 2012, Quinto worked as a volunteer for the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, and he appeared in the film Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for Obama, which was distributed around that time. Jonathan Groff, an actor, and Zachary Quinto began dating in 2010, and their relationship lasted until 2013. When Quinto first got to know the model and singer Miles McMillan in the summer of 2013, they hit it off and soon started dating. Early in 2015, the couple moved into the condominium they had jointly purchased in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. When they were highlighted in the November 2015 issue of Vogue magazine, the publication referred to them as “a power couple whose domain extends over the cinema, fashion, and art scenes.” The couple concluded that the time had come to end their relationship at the beginning of 2019.

Following allegations that actor Kevin Spacey made sexual advances toward actor Anthony Rapp, who was only 14 years old then, Spacey decided to come out as part of his defense against the allegations. Quinto has voiced their disagreement with the timing of Spacey’s decision to come out. According to him, the admission made by Kevin Spacey was “unfortunate and troubling,” and he thought that Spacey had not made the statement “as a point of pride.” In the short-lived series The Others, he made his debut as a television performer. Since then, he has been featured as a guest performer on several other programs, such as CSI, Touched by an Angel, Charmed, Six Feet Under, and Lizzie McGuire. This announcement occurred during the press conference to promote the first new Star Trek movie.

When I was offered the job, I knew straight away that it had been done with his consent since he was aware that he had given his approval to the actor who would represent young Spock, so when he told me that, I immediately recognized that it had been done with his blessing. J.J. Abrams, the director of Star Trek, lauded Zachary Quinto’s performance as Spock in an interview that took place in September of 2008. Abrams said Quinto “brought a gravitas and a fantastic sense of comedy, which is a wonderful combination since Spock’s character is deceptively complicated.” Quinto’s portrayal of Spock was described as “a wonderful combination” by Abrams.

After working on various moments throughout the film, he was finally allowed to see the finished product for the first time. Then, he had the epiphany that he is genuinely extraordinary. He didn’t even aware he was doing things to trace his tale that I didn’t see when we were filming, and they were great things.
