Aubrey O’Day Biography and Career:

Aubrey Morgan O’Day is a well-known American singer and reality television personality. She is most known for her time spent as a member of the girl group Danity Kane, which she joined on February 11, 1984. O’Day was kicked out of Danity Kane in 2008 as a result of infighting among the other members of the group as well as with her mentor at the time, P. Diddy, although she later got back together with the group before it disbanded for a second time in 2013. In 2018, Danity Kane got back together as a trio after a long hiatus. Since 2015, she has also been a member of the duo Dumblonde, which she created with her former bandmate from Danity Kane, and Shannon Bex. O’Day has modelled for publications including Blender and Playboy, and she has also appeared in the Broadway production of Hairspray.

She released her debut extended play (EP), titled Between Two Evils, in the year 2013, after signing a solo record deal with SRC/Universal Motown Records in 2011. In addition, O’Day has been seen in episodes of many reality television programmes, such as the fifth season of Celebrity Apprentice, Famously Single, Ex on the Beach, and the 18th season of the British Celebrity Big Brother. O’Day made her stage debut when she was only five years old. She mentioned this in an interview, “I lived on the stage, and even at the age of six, I slept behind the seats of the theatre.” O’Day’s mother claims that when O’Day was just four years old, she was in the audience at a performance of The Nutcracker and began to cry.

Her mother inquired as to what was wrong, and O’Day responded, “I’m unhappy because I’m not up on stage right now.” O’Day remembers that particular instance as the one in which she “officially” became aware of her passion for the entertainment industry. Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” Carmen from “Fame,” Sandy from “Grease,” Liesl from “The Sound of Music,” Tzeitel from “Fiddler on the Roof,” and Mimi from “Rent” are just a few of the leading roles that O’Day has done in numerous musical productions. In addition, she had a role in Annie.

During O’Day’s childhood, the emphasis was placed more on acting gigs and auditions than on attending school.  When she was a child, The Notorious B.I.G. and Sean “Puffy” Combs were her significant sources of inspiration. O’Day received his high school education at La Quinta. She later graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a degree in political science, where she also became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She majored in both political science and drama during her time there.

O’Day became known to the public after being featured on the MTV reality show Making the Band 3, which was created by Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2004. O’Day went on to become the season’s most prominent breakthrough performer. Blender magazine reached out to O’Day during the second season of Making the Band 3 when the competition was still going on and asked him to pose for the September 2005 issue of the publication. She was the contestant “who bared calm resolve and tanned hip bones in beating out almost 10,000 girls for the shot at singing and strutting in a P. Diddy–steered girl group,” according to the publication. O’Day revealed that he was worried about the competition for a spot in the group.

She said, “I’ve been in the ‘cut’ situation multiple times,” and she was referring to a specific situation. “It’s difficult to stand in a room and be aware that the dream I want is entirely in [Combs’s] control,” she said. O’Day had to drop out of college in order to compete in the event since he was so focused on winning. Combs was certain that O’Day had “Black in her family” after witnessing her dance and further stated this sentiment after watching her sing a version of “At Last” at a club during Season 1 of the programme. Combs first became persuaded by this after watching O’Day’s dancing. This, in addition to what many viewers interpreted as a natural charisma, helped endear her to the judges and fans, making her a favourite among them consistently.

Former Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync manager Johnny Wright, who acted as one of the judges on the show, remarked that they recognised she was “a star” from her very first audition in Los Angeles. O’Day was ultimately selected to become a member of the group and was the initial member to be included. After changing their name, the band is now known as Danity Kane, and on August 22, 2006, their first album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 rankings. The band served as Christina Aguilera’s opening act during the United States portion of her Return to Basics Tour, which she was co-headlining with the Pussycat Dolls.

O’Day’s fame and the fact that publications found her to have nice physical characteristics were both helpful in expanding her career beyond the group. In addition to her participation in other musical endeavours, she has modelled for a number of “sexy” magazine spreads. On the episode of Making the Band that aired on August 28, 2008, Combs referred to O’Day as “one of the worst dancers” in Danity Kane.

This was due to the fact that Combs was consistently unhappy with O’Day’s “oversexed” new image. He commented to O’Day that she did not appear to be the same girl he had signed and that she had previously been among the most talented.  Combs accused O’Day in a direct manner of attempting to increase her fame at the expense of the entire group. He also claimed that she enjoyed showing off her breasts and wearing her hair in a big way, referring to an incident in which she had rubbed her cleavage on the arm of a television host. Combs’ accusations were very direct.  He questioned the logic behind his decision to include O’Day with the other people.

Combs announced that O’Day was no longer a member of Danity Kane on the episode of Creating the Band that aired on October 7, 2008, after continuing to argue with O’Day over how the band should proceed moving forward. But, Bad Boy Records has not yet made any kind of official comment about the matter. When O’Day was questioned by the Boston Herald if she was still a member of the group, she avoided directly answering the question and instead responded, “I can’t comment on anything, I’m sorry.” There was talk that Combs had only pretended to fire O’Day in order to boost his ratings, and that he had no intention of actually terminating her employment.

When referring to herself in the context of her career, O’Day would still call herself a “member of a girl band” and “the official party girl of Danity Kane.”On the episode of Making the Band that aired on October 14, 2008, it was revealed that O’Day had left the band, as had their bandmate and best friend at the time D. Woods. During the live portion of the show, Combs revealed that the reason he did not re-sign O’Day was that she had changed as a result of her success and that she was no longer the same girl he had signed. Tonight marks the conclusion of a part of the story that is my life, but it is not the final page of the book. I will do all in my power to leave my mark on this industry, and Danity Kane and Sean Combs have given me the incredible opportunity to go out into the world and really move people’s hearts. I don’t believe that there will ever be another time in my life when I will be able to achieve something to the same extent as what we did in order to motivate other people.

MTV News surveyed the audience to find out how they felt about the firings of O’Day and Woods. On the MTV News website, followers expressed their dissatisfaction with the band’s decision to disband in a manner that was vehement, lengthy, and specific. The season of Creating the Band that aired in 2009 was supposed to include new band members trying out for the role of “replacements” for O’Day and Woods in Danity Kane, but instead, it revealed the group had officially disbanded.  At first, it was believed that the entire dissolution of the band was due to the fact that O’Day and Woods, along with another member of the band named Shannon Bex, had turned down the opportunity to come back to the series and the band.

This was later disputed by O’Day, who indicated that while she was unsure if Woods was asked back, she herself was not requested to return. O’Day countered that while she was unsure if Woods was asked back, she was not asked back. O’Day stated that if the opportunity had been presented, she would have returned and that she does not have a problem with returning.  In the episode of Forming the Band that aired on April 16, 2009, Combs gave her the go-ahead to be formally liberated from her contract with Bad Boy Records.
